Aaron Rodgers Suffers Injury , Does Not Return Vs. Bears
The biggest fear in Wisconsin is an injury to Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He's irreplaceable no matter who his backup is, and, well, his backup is journeyman Seneca Wallace.
So when Rodgers ran back to the locker room to get checked out for a left shoulder injury on Monday night, every Packers fan had the same thought, and it's not repeatable on a family website.Rodgers was knocked out of the game against the Bears, and early in the second quarter the team announced he wouldn't return.
Rodgers was sacked by Bears defensive end Shea McClellin on a third-down play at the end of the Packers' first drive. Rodgers didn't stay down, and nothing seemed amiss. But the Packers trainers kept evaluating him on the sideline for the next few minutes, before he finally ran off to the locker room area for further tests. And that's about when Lambeau Field fell deathly silent.
Wallace went in at quarterback on the Packers' second drive. That drive ended with Wallace throwing an interception to Bears end Julius Peppers.
Rodgers has been very durable in his career, missing just one start due to injury since becoming
Green Bay's starter in 2008. He missed one game in 2010 with a concussion.
The injury on Monday night is a reminder that if the Packers are without Rodgers for a while, their status as a favorite in the NFC would instantly disappear.
Packers team physician Pat McKenzie could be seen examining Rodgers on the sideline, specifically the quarterback’s left clavicle (collarbone), presumably evaluating the area for tenderness and any deformity. The Packers would later qualify it as a “left shoulder injury,” and coach Mike McCarthy told reporters after the game there would be further testing for Rodgers on Tuesday.
