Amir Khan Takes Down Luis Collazo Easily Become Welterweight Champion

Last Updated: May 04, 2014

Amir Khan the 27 years old British boxer, won ugly against Luis Collazo knocking him out three times but in an eventful fight and become fully fledged welterweight champion. The three judges scored him victorious with 117-106, 119-104, and 119-104.

It was a one sided match from the very start. Collazo was 1st knocked out in the 4th round and then twice in 10th round. Khan didn’t let him settle in the whole match and was on to him throughout it.

Khan style has change a bit since his return and is resulting to be very fruitful so far. His discipline and concentration in a wide points victory over the former world champion Luis Collazo on his debut at 10st 7lb were so far removed from his wild and vulnerable days as a light-welterweight as to make him almost unrecognizable.

“This is the first time I spent a good amount of time with Virgil,” Khan said.

“He was very awkward. It was a great thing to have a one-year lay-off. Collazo has only lost close fights, but I beat him convincingly tonight. I had to be disciplined tonight. Collazo's a great fighter. This was my first fight in 13 months. I'm still improving and will sit down with my team and look at the tape.” He continued.

This was a great win for Khan after return and this win earns him the front-runner's spot to face Floyd Mayweather later this year or next year. He right away challenged Mayweather to fight him next.

“Floyd should fight me next,” Khan said.

“People now want to see a fight between me and Floyd. Floyd hasn’t seen speed. He’s fighting people with explosive power. But styles make fights and I think my style will give him a lot of trouble. Floyd looks beatable. He’s getting a little older now and that’s why a lot of people want the fight, because they want a young lion to come up and they want to see him [Floyd] get beat. I think the only person who has the chance to do that is me.”
