Snapping up Jared Allen a master stroke for Bears

Last Updated: March 28, 2014

Here is the news from Super Bowl Champions.

Orlando, Fla. & mdash score one for the Bears.

Firstly, the team target when free agency opened more than two weeks ago was Michael Bennett, but the Bears couldn’t prevent the Super Bowl champion Seahawks from retaining a disorderly lineman who would have filled a void at right end.

Phil Emery, Bears General Manager, pulled off a move which was felt from here to the Pacific Northwest during a meeting with NFL owners wrapping up on Wednesday. He also agreed to the terms for a four years long contract with Jared Allen, the worth of the contract was potentially $32 million overall and $15.5 million guaranteed.

Allen gives the Bears a legitimate edge rusher and right end and also allows them to shift Lamarr Houstan, signed to a $35 million, during his two visits to the Seahawks and had an offer from them last weekend.  The contract is five years long.

Allen who turns 32 next week, was courted by Seahawks, however it is going to be very challenging for them to grasp him into their salary cap structures.

Due to this reason Bears ponied up to get a player who would provide them with something different from what they had earlier and what they have now.
