Sochi 2014-Winter Olympics

Officially the XXII Olympic Winter Games or the 22nd Winter Olympics, held at Sochi Russia, is a major international multisport event.

It is scheduled from February 7 to February 23, 2014.  At the eve of opening ceremony the skating, skiing and snowboard competitions were held. The event is organized by Sochi Organizing Committee. It was in 2007 when Sochi was selected as a host city. Around 3000 participants and 88 nations participated in the event. The closing ceremony will be held on February 23.

Many of the athletes have been performing very well since the opening ceremony, the escalating excitement and the zeal has made the event very much super, the athletes from around the world are participating in the event. Some of them are as below.

Maria Sharapova was in the escalated excitement while hitting the stage in the opening ceremony as a torch bearer. According to her it was the best exercise of her life. Maria was also accompanied by the Iranian super model Irina Shayk.

On Saturday the athletes from United States won, gold and a bronze middle.

Sage kotsenburg from USA took the gold medal in snowboarding slopestyle event. By winning this medal he became the first ever Olympic Champion of snowboard slopestyle.

Matthias Mayer from Austria win the men’s downhill gold, however Bode Miller and Aksel Lund Svindal missed out the medal.

The 23 years old Mayer, who is competing in Olympics for the first time, is performing better than his father Helmut. Helmut won silver in Super-G in 1988. Mayer has never won a world cup however he remained at 13th in the world championship in 2013.

American Miller, 36, was bidding for the sixth Olympic medal and second gold in the runs on the steep, icy track, but he was unable to replicate his pace on an overcast race day and finished eighth.
