United States of America has struggled a lot in the field of sports over the decade, and that’s why they’ve been able to make it to the top 15 nations in FIFA’s list. The best place so far for USA in the world cup has been in the semifinals. Where in 1930 USA defeated England badly, that was bloody upsetting for the brits and that’s also why these two nations have been competent over the years. USA has appeared in the world cup about 14 times from when it started. And their leading bomb or special weapon is their goal scorer Landon Donovan (5). They’ve been able to beat the most fearsome and top nations in World Cup including Brazil, Italy, Argentina, Spain, Germany and South Korea. But this time round their head coach Juergen Klinsmann has doubts about his team even being in the top 16. They’ve had many difficulties but they need to focus on their strengths particularly on Michael Bradley. USA has passed mexico as CONCAF’s best team after getting into the qualifying round.

Their defence is their most compromised spot, and Klinsmann is not even ready to play at huge level yet. If USA succeeds in the worldcup it would thus be because of Bradley and Jones dominating the midfield and Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey at scoring line.

Portugal is going through a hard time in the worldcup when teams like netherland and USA can even drag the team out easily it’s time for Portugal’s star player Ronaldo to step up the game. The teams got here with an amazing 4-2 win in the play-offs with Sweden. They are currently ranked at number 3 on FIFA’s ranking list. They have appeared 3 time over the past years in this competition and their best finish so far has been till third place and that was in 1996.their leading goalscorer is not Ronaldo but Eusebio (9). Ronaldo’s spot as the most influential player has been taken by Joao Moutinho. His partnership with Fabio Coentrao and with Pepe and Bruno Alves made them win many times. However their biggest concern so far is centre-forward Helder Postiga and hugo Almeida. Both are unpredictable and prone to tantrums. The upside is the players are all experienced and just need to brush up their co-ordination a bit.

Match Summary:

Both teams have arrives and sing their anthems, whole heartily. And they're off. Won't be seeing no first minute goal. Both teams are struggling to take possession. Four minutes out and portugal goals. Nani runs with he ball past cameron and he's got a clear score. When not much of USA's got a chance to kick, johnson gets a free kick right outside the Portugal box, to the right. But Dempsey takes it and it goes over the bar . USA are coming forward but are making sloppy giveaways. Zusi gives away the ball in his own half and portugal gets a chance to spring ronaldo. But he's thrown off by jones and is asking for a free kick. No he wont get  it. Long shot by bradely, he is forcing beto out of his goal to clear he path for Dempsey. USA has crowded out near the Portugal box and are looking to get inside further but their defence is commendable. Geoff cameron tries to kick the ball upfront but throws it off to nani. USA forward johnson seems strong up till he sends a low pass off to too Portuguese. They try to handle it and ronaldo is offside before he even knows it. The ground gets a bit quiet and jones is limping after a stupid landing over a header. And the referee calls for water break. USA has the ball in their possession and are attacked by beto, he punches beckermen out and the ball goes out to nani, and nani is fouled. 45+1 minutes and nani hits the post. luckily howard saves it. Cameron is booked on ronaldo and tries to throw him off the halfway line.

Half time

Whistle blows ane the ground rolls as the teams chase the ball. Ronaldo takes a hit and it goes out to besler. Portugal gets a free kick. Johnson crosses the ball to velose. USA gets a corner and wastes it. bradley gets a chance to score but shoots it off the goal line.e USA gets a corner and it looks clear with jones on the left side of the box. He cuts it right inside on the edge of D and throws a right foot shot to the corner and its a goal. Maireles out and varela in. More crosses and offsides. Jones gets a yellow card. 80 minutes and USA goals again, this time by dempsey. Portugal gets a free kick. Dempsey off and wondolowski in. 90+4 minutes and just seconds before full time ronaldo sends a perfect cross to varela who fires it into the box and goal!
