The news which was circulated a year before came into reality when Vladimir Putin finalized his divorce from his wife Lyudmila. The news of their separation was announced a year before, before TV cameras, but until the last week Mr. Putin’s profile was among those of married people. Moreover in his official documents he was considered as married too.

The event was not given much publicity.

Putin who is 61, his profile reads, “Married. Wife Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Putin” earlier, however now the it reads, “Daughters, Maria (born 1985) and Katerina (1986)”.

The divorce was said to be a combine decision of both of them, after the announcement of the separation on a Russian TV, Mr. Putin stated that, “It was a joint decision: we hardly see each other, each of us has our own life.”

On the other hand his wife said that, “I am very grateful to Vladimir... that he still supports me. And the children, he really cares for them and the children feel this,”

Whereas BBC reported that both of them to be “always remain close”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has formally divorced his wife Lyudmila after more than 30 years of marriage.
