Why the Red Hot Chili Peppers Didn’t Play Live at the Super Bowl

Flea, Michael Balzary, has spoke out on his band’s official website, in a response to the widespread reports that the band was unplugged when they played the Super Bowl halftime show with Bruno Mars in the last Sunday.

It was first noticed by USA Today that both Flea, and Josh Klinghoffer, the guitarists were unplugged in East Rutherford, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium during their performance of “Give it Away”. A series of the close up photos were also made during their performance, which clearly shown that they were not plugged during their performance. Soon after the report of the USA Today, the rest of internet too took notice of that.

On asking about the details of the things the statement of Flea reads, "We take our music playing seriously, it is a sacred thing for us, and anyone who has ever seen us in concert (like the night before the Super Bowl at the Barclays Center), knows that we play from our heart, we improvise spontaneously, take musical risks, and sweat blood at every show. We have been on the road for 31 years doing it”

The next Red Chili Peppers is in Santiago Chile on 29 March and it is at the Lollapolaaza Chile festival, where they will be expected to play complete plugged-in.
